Forum: feature_films Subject: Copyright Catalog - Motion Pictures 1961 Jul-Dec Now Available

For any of you who research copyright and use Haiti Trust you know that the 1961 Jul-Dec volume is not online. I have searched for a couple of months and finally found an online bookstore last week listing 13 volumes from 1961 to 1967 from a bookstore in NJ. I ordered the set and they are in very good condition.

I scanned the 1961 Jul-Dec volume and created searchable pages for the Current Registrations, Renewal Registrations and the Name Index section. I also created bookmarks, so if you click on the bookmark icon in your pdf reader you can go to a specific section or page number.

The searchable sections use OCR text and the translation isn't always perfect. So it's usually best to manually read the entries. I did check the text for the Renewal Section and OCR mis-interpreted probably 10 or 12 titles.

You can download the PDF file here:

I've tried using the Haiti Trust site, and it's a mess. As far as I know you and Moongleam have downloaded the pages. Did you just go page to page saving them as you went, or is there a way to download it, either section by section or all in one piece? I'd like to have the catalog, but I don't want to do all that repetitive work. Thanks.

I went page by page and saved each png image file. When I get time I'll probably put all those into PDF files for each 6 month period.

I also went page by page and copied all the text from each page. I have been proof reading that and correcting the entries against the png pages. But that is taking quit a bit of time. So far I have only proof read the text files from 1957 to 1961.

That's a lot of work. Probably just checking the titles would be sufficient.

That's a lot of work, and a good project. I hope to see the results here someday.

I went page by page, saving the text. I quickly looked over each page trying to find errors in the actual titles; those are the errors that would keep you from finding the movie, of course. Some pages were complete gibberish, so I had to save the png file and ocr it using TopOCR. It was a very tedious process.

Some pages or parts of some pages are missing from the scans, so I have to search the indexes for those registers.

Let me know how well the file I created for 1961 works.

Your text is better than G@@GLE's because it has a blank line separating each pair of movies. It required very little massaging in order to be ready for my search program.

The copyright status of two W.C. Fields films was in doubt.

This fills a very troublesome gap in the HathiTrust movie renewals. Thanks a lot.
